The Work at Hand (2015)

For mezzo-soprano, cello and piano; also for mezzo-soprano, cello and orchestra (duration approximately 18 minutes). Three symphonic songs based on poetry by the late Laura Morefield (1961-2011), commissioned for mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton and cellist Anne Martindale Williams by Carnegie Hall and the Pittsburgh Symphony. First performance: Feb 17, 2015 by Jamie Barton, Anne Martindale Williams and pianist Bradley Moore at Carnegie Hall, NYC.

Orchestral premiere: May 15, 2015 by Jamie Barton, Anne Martindale Williams and the Pittsburgh Symphony conducted by Michael Francis at Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh PA.

Orchestration: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 2 percussion, harp, strings.
