Houston Grand Opera debuts Civil War-themed 'Intelligence' this weekend

Months before Houston Grand Opera’s world premiere of “Intelligence" on Oct. 20, a rehearsal is underway deep in the fourth-floor maze of the Wortham Theater Center. Director and choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar is helping the members of Urban Bush Women, her Brooklyn-based dance company, build out the closing number of Act 1, in which a fire consumes the Confederate White House in Richmond, Va. It’s painstaking work, but she loves it.
